What if building better didn't require reinventing every material, but simply using familiar materials in more intentional ways?

This project is designed around that idea. Rather than focusing on high-tech features for their own sake, the project explores how thoughtful material selection, innovative applications, and careful execution can work together to create a better-performing home.

The home features insulated concrete form (ICF) construction with additional exterior insulation, specialized concrete and rebar detailing, and a sub-slab base made from Glavel foamed glass aggregate. High-performance R-18 vacuum-insulated glass windows, featuring locally manufactured LuxWall glass from Ypsilanti, are paired with custom-built insulated window frames to further support the home's thermal performance.

Each of these decisions reflects a larger goal: to look beyond conventional building methods and consider how everyday materials, applied differently, can improve the way a home performs.

Join Aspire Architecture,Meadowlark, and owner Peter Woolf for an upcoming Behind the Drywall tour to see these systems up close, learn why they were selected, and explore the details that often remain hidden once construction is complete.
