What to Expect From the Meadowlark Custom Home Building Process:

When you work with Meadowlark Design + Build, you work with a team of designers and construction professionals who are dedicated to bringing your vision to life. With any Ann Arbor custom home we build, you, the client, are the hero of the story. Our proven process removes the stress and hassle typically associated with a new home build, allowing you to focus on what matters — enjoying your new custom home.

  1. Choose your lot. Before you begin building your Ann Arbor custom home, you need somewhere to put it. Choose a lot before you approach the Meadowlark team, so we can offer an accurate estimate for your ideal home, and keep your timeline moving.

  2. Collaborate with our design team. Our experienced designers and architects work with you to better understand your vision for your home and your unique design tastes.

  3. Create your design. Next, our team gets to work bringing your design to life. We take into account your wants, needs and budget range to develop three well-planned designs that represent three different price points.

  4. Connect design to construction. When you've chosen and approved the plans and finishes for your Ann Arbor custom home, our team gets to work bringing all of those plans to reality. We handle every detail from design to materials sourcing to scheduling, so you don't need to stress about the process or the details.

  5. Construct your Ann Arbor custom home. Now, all of that planning pays off. Construction begins and continues according to the plan our team meticulously orchestrated. You're kept involved throughout the process with regular site visits and status meetings.

  6. Care for the lifetime of your home. We believe in building long-term relationships with our clients. We stop by for your custom home's 1-year anniversary, and our warranty supports your home for a full three years following the completion of the build. Beyond that, our Encore Division is always available should you need assistance or have any questions.

The Meadowlark team is here to walk you through every step of the custom home design and build process. If you're new to custom home building and aren't sure what to expect, check out our blog on the 6 Steps of the Custom Home Building Process.

Ann Arbor Custom Home Building FAQs

Choosing to build a custom home is a big decision. You want to make sure you're working with the right team. If you're new to the custom home building process, you might have a few questions. Here are answers to a few of the questions we hear most often from our clients.

Do I need to buy a lot for my custom home before contacting Meadowlark?

Yes. Before we can even consider designing your new custom home, it's important that you've selected and purchased a lot. The lot you choose will dictate the scope of work, as well as the fundamental design-build elements of your home.

How much will my Ann Arbor custom home cost?

The Meadowlark team can give you an accurate estimate when you get in touch with our team. Because custom homes are just that — custom — there's a lot that goes into the cost of your project, which makes it difficult to offer a concrete price range. If you have questions about what goes into the cost of a custom home build, we suggest this helpful post: Building a Custom Home: The Budget Breakdown.

What if I'm already working with a home designer or architect? Can I still work with Meadowlark?

Yes! The Meadowlark team loves to collaborate and welcomes your project. If you are already working with a home designer or residential architect, we are happy to bring them into our proven process to complete a custom home that's perfectly suited to you.

How long will it take to build my custom home?

In general, you can plan for the design process to take 4-6 months, and the custom home building process to take from 12-15 months. The timeline is primarily dependent on you — the faster and more confidently you finalize your design and selections, the easier it is for the build to move along quickly. That said, even if you're entering into the custom home building process with a limited vision for your project, our proven process will help you realize the custom home of your dreams on a reasonable timeline.

Will you help with the interior design of my new custom home?

At Meadowlark, we believe that no custom home building project will be as good as it could be without exceptional interior design. Our interior designers are degreed professionals who work directly with you to discover the best version of your custom home. When you build with Meadowlark, interior design is an important component of our services, and we work the interior design into our proven process in a way that delivers the home you've always wanted, inside and out.

Can I save money by doing some of the work myself?

Nope. When you build a Meadowlark custom home, our Three-year warranty covers your entire home. Any work you complete voids the warranty. While it's easy to think that contributing to a little of the construction work on your own will save you a bit during the build, it's actually more likely it will cost you in the long run. We have skilled in-house crews and vetted sub-contractors and suppliers who we know will stand behind their service and products. We control the design and build process to make sure it meets our stringent standards. Our warranty is one of the best in the business — you don't want to miss out!
