“High quality, beautiful flooring, available to everyone” After watching a 60 minutes episode, I learned that only the “available to everyone” is the one true statement out of many that Lumber Liquidators claims to be true. You can catch the 60 Minutes episode here and read about the company’s rebuttal here. In summary, an investigation by 60 Minutes found that Lumber Liquidators is selling flooring produced in China that has unsafe levels of formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. You can educate yourself on the issues and the response from the company by using the links above. I want to make it a point to highlight that throughout the selections process when remodeling or constructing a new home, there are a lot of decisions to be made. Often, the quality our client’s expect of a Meadowlark Home comes with a bit of “pain” when choosing the selections. The cost of interior finishes is typically responsible for 30% of the budget – this is a good chunk of change no matter the size of the project. Each decision made will carry weight on this number, but it is important to make decisions based not only on the bottom line, but also on your health and the health of your family. At Meadowlark we understand that not every project gets gold faucets (actually, none of ours do…though most are low flow). We also understand that part of our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the environmental implications. Your health matters to us, and the decisions we make with our clients have implications that extend beyond the budget – they affect your lives – and that’s what matters to us!
