This home was originally built in the 1980’s as a reproduction of a famous Federal period historic house located in New England. The kitchen was in need of an update, and the owners also wanted to remake their master suite and add an entertainment area. The house needed daylight and a sense of communication between the rooms. We re-configured the layout while installing new cabinetry and finishes that were appropriate for the Federal period. A geothermal system and radiant flooring were retrofit into the house for comfort and efficiency. The result was a home with all the character of a centuries-old home, and none of the discomfort and inefficiency.

*The HERS Index is a scoring system for a home’s energy efficiency, like an MPG sticker for a motor vehicle. HERS starts with an average home for a point of reference called the “HERS Reference Home” which is valued at a HERS Index of 100. On the other side of the spectrum, the most energy efficient, net zero energy home scores a HERS Index of 0. Each point below the benchmark of 100 represents 1% of gain in energy efficiency.
**An EUI is the energy consumed (Btu) within a building divided by its total square feet. An EUI is a relative measure of how efficient a home is, with a lower number being better.
