GREEN BUILDING

Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs)

This building system utilizes Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) forms between which concrete is placed. This forms a sandwich with foam as the bread and concrete as the filling, and results in a very tight building with superior energy performance. Although great for foundations, this is also an ideal method for building above grade. Some of the advantages of building with ICFs include:

  • High insulation values, thermal mass, and very tight construction deliver outstanding energy efficiency and comfort within the house
  • Extremely durable, long-lasting construction
  • High sound absorption – ICF homes are quiet and peaceful inside
  • Versatility in building at competitive prices
  • Little construction waste, uses local materials
