LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a green building certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit trade organization.
LEED® for Homes provides independent, rigorous, third-party verification that a house was built (or rebuilt) using best practices aimed at improving energy and water efficiency, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, improving indoor air quality, protecting natural resources, and reducing long-term environmental impacts. There are four levels of certification a project can earn: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
Certified and Silver ratings represent a house that was built as a system with good building practices. Gold and Platinum generally are highly efficient homes that incorporate advanced building techniques to make them perform best-in-class.
